How long will it take for me to be housed with Adelaide Benevolent Society?
Unfortunately, we cannot house everyone and we encourage applicants to apply to other housing providers as well. As vacancies arise, we review applications and interview between 3-5 applicants for each vacancy.
Can I apply for a property if I currently live interstate?
Yes, the Adelaide Benevolent Society receives many applications from people returning or relocating to South Australia for family, study, or work.
If I live in an Adelaide Benevolent Society property can I have a pet?
The majority of our properties do not have a private or secure backyard and thus may not be appropriate for pets. Where a small pet can be accommodated, such requests will be considered on merit.
Can I apply for housing if I have a job?
Yes you can, we encourage our tenants to be active in the community, including through employment. Many people who are employed are still receiving a “low income” and would meet our eligibility criteria. If you are unsure whether your income is “low”, the Commonwealth Government NRAS income limits are a good guide, and can be viewed here.
What supports are provided to Adelaide Benevolent Society tenants?
We provide affordable rental housing through a 25% rent discount and no charge for water supply or usage. We do not provide any other additional living or accommodation support. Our tenants can, however, engage with support services through other providers.
Do I have to be over 55 years old to apply for a property?
No, we house people of all ages. It is only our retirement village properties which have an over 55 years age restriction.
Do you pass my application onto other housing and NRAS providers?
No, your application is only for housing with Adelaide Benevolent Society. We encourage you to also apply to other providers according to their requirements to increase your chance of finding a home.
